SANTA ANITA

Published in 1991 by Carpenter and Associates this book has 86 Duo Tone images which document the Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia, California.  The photographs included in the book were over a four year span and captured moments such as Willie Shoemaker's last race and arguably the best racing colony of jockeys all time.  The Introduction was written by The Daily Racing Form's Leon Rasmussen, who details the rich history of this famous venue.  Bill Jay, one of photography's greatest historians, wrote the afterword which puts Valentine's images in to context in the world of fine art photography.  Hard and Soft bound copies are available.  A few limited edition copies , autographed by over 40 horse racing industry legends, are also available.  The list of signatures include the follow: Tim Conway (Comedian and horse racing supporter), Charlie Whittingham, D. Wayne Lukas, Laffitt Pincay Jr., Chris McCarron, Gary Stevens, and Eddie Delahoussaye.
